I don't forget easily. In the course of my life this has both served me and worked against me. Couple this memory with my belief that people don't ever change and you can see that I create certain expectations rather quickly and easily. Again, this can be helpful and not.
It is with no great surprise then that I immediately thought of Knights of the Old Republic when I saw the Bioware splash screen when I started up Mass Effect for the first time. As I said above, this is certainly a blessing for them and a curse.

Let me get this out of the way quickly: This is a great game. If you're waiting for a reason to buy it, don't. It's deep and it's pretty and it's everything we can expect for our $60. It does have some interesting quirks and some of it is familiar, but there is no doubting its overall excellence, particuarly when compared to the rest of the field.
Mass Effect deals with a future where we have made contact with alien races. In a somewhat cliched plot, we humans are the least advanced, most ambitious, and are viewed as the adolescents of the galaxy. Despite the familiarity of this, Bioware does an excellent job of delivering a detailed and interesting story.
