Iron Man is shaping up to be a quality licensed video game adaptation of the film.

Based on the upcoming Jon Favreau film, Iron Man is being developed by Sega, who bought the rights of the development from Activision. Sega followed up by buying several other Marvel licenses for development including: The Incredible Hulk (June 2008), Thor (TBA 2009), and Captain America (TBA 2009). So with all the concentration on cornering the comic book market – along with the fact they’ll be movie adaptations – Sega has released a demo onto Xbox Live for Iron Man. Let’s examine if the results are satisfactory.

Iron Man hopes to soar to new heights.

Revolving around the events of the film, Iron Man begins as an introductory tale of how Tony Stark became the legendary armored superhero. As the movie trailers clearly indicate, Stark starts his heroic tale with being captured in Afghanistan by a group called ‘The Ten Rings’ when showing off a weapon he built for the U.S. military. Held hostage against his will, Stark must escape from his captors by means of making the very first Iron Man suit.

A quick side-note for those who are Iron Man fans, you’ll notice foreshadowing to the super-villain The Mandarin throughout the film and the video game. The Mandarin is a villain that controls 10 magical rings that each grants him a different ability. Anyway, it’s all icing on the cake for Iron Man fanatics.

He'll be laying down the law on horrible licensed video games.

The Xbox Live demo consists of one level that has Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark III suit destroying six weapon caches that are heavily defended by The Ten Rings. Fighting against tanks, helicopters, soldiers, anti-aircraft vehicles and weapons, Iron Man has his job cut out for him, but thankfully, armed with powerful weapons, it’s a cinch to fly through and finish the mission.
