CVG has divulged several new details on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, including information on sprinting and car explosions, two seemingly minor facets of which Grand Theft Auto veterans understand the importance.
The information, revealed in the Turkish Official Xbox Magazine, says that the sprint mechanic from previous outings, in which the player could hold a button to sprint until the player character ran out of breath, is gone. Now, players can sprint indefinitely, but the speed will be reduced.
The notoriously flimsy cars of the Grand Theft Auto world are also gone. Cars will no long explode after normal wear and tear (and normal wear and tear in Liberty City usually means multiple head-on collisions), but will instead explode only under extremely concentrated weapons fire.
The HUD is gone, and damage is shown on Niko Bellic's character model. Armor shows up as an actual kevlar vest that shows damage over time. Finally, the food and fitness systems from San Andreas will not be making a return.
