Boogie Bunnies

Boogie Bunnies is brought to us by Artech Studios which has a history of board game translations behind it’s belt, but would be most notably known in gamers mind’s as the makers of Razes Hell for the original Xbox. Certainly you all remember Razes Hell, right? Yeah, I had to Wikipedia it myself. Anyway Artech’s newest offering is a package of sugar coated marshmallow fluff crammed into a Bust-A-Move puzzler shell and then slapped with some pop music dance moves for good measure.

For some reason I want the boogie bunnies to fall into their watery ice graves.
 

The game has different colored bunnies that move slowly down the screen toward certain doom at the bottom of the screen. The player has his own limitless supply of randomly colored bunnies that he can launch at the oncoming horde. When like colors line up, those bunnies will disappear and presumably are ushered to some fate far better than falling into the dark crevice (or street grate, or river, or whatever else the developers could think up) at the bottom of the screen. Basically matching up advancing colored blocks so that they disappear, just like every other puzzle game out there.

When the music starts up it is time to... Bust-a-Move?
 

Well to differentiate Boogie Bunnies from those other games, Artech throws a one-two punch at us. First off, you are not restricted to moving your bunny along the bottom of the screen. Instead you can also climb the sides of the screen in order to find an appropriate spot to launch your bunny. Unfortunately this just overcomplicates what was once a simple puzzle mechanic. Second, the on-screen bunnies have a tendency to break into dance and when you match up bunnies while this is going on your points are multiplied. This proves to be random, devoid of any real strategy, and threatens to send you over the edge and into a diabetic coma from the sugar sweet overdose. The whole experience just wasn’t very addictive and the super cute look and concept was just too much for me to stomach.
