HMV Offers Ninja Gaiden II Pre-Order Bonus

HMV today announced that anyone who pre-orders Ninja Gaiden II for the Xbox 360 from its official website, HMV.com, will be treated to 1000 Xbox Live Points to spend as they please.

Duncan La Barre, an Online Game Specialist at HMV.com, offered the following comment about the promotion:

"Customers will be able to spend their 1000 points on anything they like on Xbox Live Marketplace, such as the new multiplayer maps for Call of Duty 4, a new song pack for Guitar Hero 3, or even a high definition movie.

There's always new things being added to Xbox LIVE, such as the forthcoming downloadable episodic content for GTA IV available later this year, so there's loads of stuff to spend your points on."

Sonic Unleashed Screenshot Update

Earlier this year Sega announced that the latest installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise will arrive later this year in the form of Sonic Unleashed for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Wii.

Plot-wise, Sonic Unleashed focuses on the blue blur's quest to undo Dr. Eggman/Robotnik's evil work and “put the pieces of the world back together” using the power of the Chaos emeralds.

Gameplay will change depending on whether the player is playing during the day or at night, with the former focused on the usual high-speed chases and ring-collecting, etc., and the latter focused on combat.

Spyro: Dawn Of The Dragon Screens

Earlier this year, Vivendi Games announced the third and final installment in the Legend of Spyro trilogy. Entitled Dawn Of The Dragon, it is currently being developed by Etranges Libellules for the Xbox 360, PS3/2, Wii and DS.

“Spyro has grown up a lot since his debut, and players are going to notice advanced gameplay, character design and story lines in Dawn of the Dragon,” said Al Simone, senior vice president, Global Marketing for Sierra Entertainment.

“The game takes some exciting twists and turns – fans of the series and newcomers alike will experience non-stop fun, a renewed sense of intensity and the type of challenging adventure only Spyro can overcome.”
Dawn Of The Dragon will feature a slew of well-known voice actors including Elijah Wood , Gary Oldman, Christina Ricci, Blair Underwood, Mark Hamill and Wayne Brady.

The game's story will see Spyro team up with his ex-nemesis, Cynder, as he faces off against the Dark Master. Two new features include the ability to fly at any time, plus a new drop-in/drop-out” co-operative mode.

Konami Announces Rock Revolution

Konami yesterday announced Rock Revolution, which it claims “will re-define the rhythm genre,” for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS and the Wii.

"Rock Revolution will be the most innovative and realistic rock game to hit the market, that will provide a quality drum peripheral and music that players will appreciate," said Anthony Crouts, VP of Marketing at Konami.

"As the originator of music-based games, we are dedicated to bringing fans a truly pre-eminent music experience. With Rock Revolution, we put the emphasis on the drum kit, delivering an experience unlike any other."
The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will feature support for Konami's yet-to-be-revealed drum peripheral, as well as downloadable content via the PlayStation network and Xbox Live, respectively.

The Wii and DS versions, on the other hand, will make use of the Wii Remote/Nunchuk and touch screen in order to simulate the “air-drum and air-guitar experience.” All four versions are scheduled to launch this fall.

Age Of Reckoning Release Details

Electronic Arts today announced that its upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, will launch across Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia at the same time as the U.S. and Europe.

"Warhammer is a world-wide franchise with a strong following in Australia and New Zealand,” said Mark Jacobs, VP and General Manager of EA Mythic.
A dedicated server for the game will also be launched in Australia to ensure “the best game play experience possible for players in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and other Southeast Asian territories.”
“By placing our own server down under and running customer service out of EA Mythic, we can ensure that when we launch WAR, Oceanic players will experience the same quality of game play and customer service as North American players," continued Jacobs.
Age of Reckoning is currently scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide launch this Fall.

Assault Heroes 2 Now On XBLA

Sierra Online this week announced that, as of 9.00 AM on May 14, Assault Heroes 2 has been made available to purchase via the Xbox Live Arcade.

"Assault Heroes 2 reveals that the original enemy in Assault Heroes is merely a pawn of a more sinister force, which players must now seek out and destroy,” reads the announcement press release.

“Armed with stronger weaponry and the ability to hi-jack more powerful enemy units, players must prepare to face relentless enemies and outrageous bosses in climactic battles, including an all-out skirmish in outer space.”

Sega Partners With PlatinumGames

Sega yesterday announced that it has entered into a partnership with PlatinumGames which will see the latter “develop three ground-breaking new SEGA titles - Madworld, Infinite Line and Bayonetta.”

“We are thrilled to have forged this new relationship with such a talented team of individuals and we are understandably excited about the titles that they are producing for us,” said Mike Hayes President and COO of SEGA Europe.

"Sega continually strives to release games for all consumers that are of the highest quality, working with Platinum Games further enhances that strategy.”
A fourth title, directed by Shinji Mikami, will reportedly be unveiled in the near future. The aforementioned three titles are currently scheduled for launch in 2009. Additional details can be found at Sega.com/PlatinumGames.

Two New Xbox Originals Available

Earlier this week Major Nelson revealed that two new titles will be added to the Xbox Originals collection on May 19. They are: Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse and Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows.

Both titles will be available for 1200 Microsoft Points from the Xbox Live Marketplace. However, Seven Sorrows will not be available in Japan or Korea and Stubbs the Zombie will not be available in Germany, Korea or Japan.

360 Breaks 10 Million U.S. Sales

Microsoft was more than happy to announce this morning that the Xbox 360 has officially become the first console of the current generation to sell more than 10 million units in the United States.

“This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, SVP of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division..

“History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”
Xbox 360's worldwide sales currently stand somewhere around the 19 million mark.
